Barbara Jordan Scholars
The Barbara Jordan scholarship program, named for the first black woman elected to the Texas Legislature and the U.S. Congress, provides support for a group of Rice freshman who display the qualities of the late congresswoman. The scholarship recognizes deserving students who exhibit the qualities that were a part of Jordan's character. With the help of four-year, half-tuition scholarships, Rice hopes that these dynamic youth will enhance the campus environment by embracing the racial and ethnic traditions that are a part of our society.
