James A. Baker Institute for Public Policy and Texas Institute for Society and Health Founded in 1999 by the president of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, the Texas Institute for Society and Health is a five-institution collaboration to improve population health largely centered on the impact of societal factors on population health. The activities of the Texas Institute are in four broad categories: research, public policy initiatives, community action projects, and training of scientists, all for the purpose of improving population health.
