The Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies must approve all research proposals directed to external sponsors. This includes the oversight of all terms relating to an award including budget, F&A recovery, disposition of intellectual property and cost-sharing.Grant proposals for research support from external funds should be submitted to the Office of Sponsored Research only after approval at the departmental and divisional level. Interdepartmental and interdivisional proposals require the approval of each cognizant department and/or division.
Requests for cost sharing are usually made in response to a specific cost-sharing requirement of the granting agency or other external sponsor. All requests for cost sharing should be directed to the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies and should be made well in advance of submitting the proposal to the Office of Sponsored Research. The Vice Provost has authority to approve requests for cost sharing.
Approval authority for the appointments of postdoctoral and research associates resides with the Divisional Dean, and these appointments do not require approval of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies.
