Rice University uses its $4.0 billion endowment – one of the largest endowments held by any college or university in the world – to discount tuition for all students. Rice's tuition figure of $28,400 for academic year 2007 - 2008 is substantially less than that charged by comparable private institutions. Rice administers a need-blind admission process, so admission to Rice is not influenced by financial background. Seventy-one percent of undergraduates received some form of financial aid in 2007-2008.

*Two percent of the student body did not designate a place of origin.
